Chapter Twenty: Just My Luck
Hello, Edward. Dad greeted me, sounding a little angry.
What's up?
I just was wondering why I got a call from Mrs. Denali, Stanley, Vasquez, and Mallory complaining that you had yelled at their daughters for no apparent reason especially right now while you're mother and I are on vacation.
Crap. I muttered under my breath.
What?
Um, Dad, it's a long story and you probably won't believe it.
Try me.
I filled him in on everything that had happened since I woke up that morning‒every last detail. I told him about Bella's note and Alice's diary and how Tanya and her crew pushed all of us over the edge. And now we're on the plane, flying to Italy to find Bella. I finished after talking for about half of an hour.
Dear merciful lord. Dad breathed. Edward, why didn't you call me and tell me? You're mother and I were just in Italy visiting some family friends. I could have had her by now, or been at the clock tower.
Can you go there now?
I am but you'll get there before me. You're mother and I are in our rented car on our way to Britain to visit your grandparents and I'm turning around right now. We left early this morning and now we're in traffic. Why didn't you call me?
I don't know why! I wasn't thinking. I was in full panic mode and I was being an idiot and a moron and I don't know what else and I just want her back right now.
Calm down, Edward. Everything will be okay, son. We will get Bella and bring her back to Forks. Maybe we'll get her to take some counseling for abuse trauma. Don't worry.
How can I not, dad? This is my fault!
It's not your fault. It's nobody's fault but Bella's mother and stepfather. Don't beat yourself up.
How can you be so calm.
We'll get her back, Edward, I know we will. Going into a panic attack will only make things worse.
Okay.
I'll call you in a while.
Okay.
Goodbye.
Bye, dad.
What did he say? Alice asked.
He's on his way to Volterra right now; he was just there. He says that everything will be okay and not to worry.
I don't know if I can help but worry. Alice whispered, all of us nodding in agreement.
